Proteas won the toss and elected to bat first on an aiding pitch on Day 1, opening with Kyle Verreynne’s gritty ton and an important 119-run partnership between Wiaan Mulder and himself putting South Africa into an early lead in both innings.
South Africa continued their dominance in the second with an explosive attack from Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj, both bowlers claiming an early wicket, dismissing Shadman Islam for duck and Zakir Hasan for two. Dane Paterson then had Mominul Haque lbw before Maharaj got nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud for golden duck in one over.
Mehidy Hasan finally made her mark for Bangladesh in the 15th over. Facing a short, flighted and full delivery on off, Hasan attempted to slog sweep but was overcome by extra pace of Litton Das behind the stumps who collected quickly to collect his wicket.
Day 1
South Africa reversed a poor start to their innings thanks to Tony de Zorzi’s maiden hundred and Tristan Stubbs’ fine ton. Together with Piedt’s resistance at No 10, South Africa reached 308 and built up an advantage of 217 runs over Bangladesh.
Kagiso Rabada struck twice early in the second innings to reduce South Africa to 4-for-2 before Mahmudul, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim staged an unlikely comeback – but South African bowlers continued their dominance through pace and spin bowling.
Kyle Verreynne hits an expansive full on middle delivery from full on middle and angles it in, hitting it through midwicket for a six! After that he eases it back down towards long on for three more.
Rishad Hossain tried for a sweep but missed completely and it deflected off of Maharaj’s pitch and deflected off of Rishad Hossain’s pad for a single run.
An intense final session saw the tourists do all they could to close in, but Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon failed in their bid for momentum while Tazmin Brits was caught by an outgoing ball that hit her pads lbw.
Day 2
South Africa have used an outstanding performance with the bat to put themselves 202 runs ahead of Bangladesh in this game at stumps on Day 2, thanks to Kyle Verreynne’s second Test century and strong partnerships between Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs that propelled them towards an impressive total in their opening innings.
Kagiso Rabada continued his excellent spell in the second innings, taking two wickets in four overs to leave Bangladesh reeling at 96/6. He had Dane Piedt caught behind the stumps with an in-swinging slow delivery before Mehidy Hasan Miraz edged through for Wiaan Mulder at slip.
Mahmudullah added two runs to his overnight score before being caught at short leg off Maharaj. However, Mulder quickly struck back by hitting a brilliant maiden Test fifty to propel South Africa towards their target. With Senuran Muthusamy partnering him in an impressive 104-run stand before Senuran Muthusamy was caught lbw off Rabada in his final over – likely off Rabada – declaring as soon as darkness falls will likely be the best approach from visiting teams.
Day 3
Bangladesh batsmen struggled after an encouraging start on day four as South Africa quickly assumed control of the match. Kyle Verreynne made his second century while Wiaan Mulder made half century for Proteas and gave them an early advantage.
Bangladesh began their second innings strongly but eventually struggled to keep up with the scoring rate. Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam put on an excellent 103-run stand for the ninth wicket before both were dismissed just short of scoring their maiden Test centuries.
Kagiso Rabada continued his superb bowling performance by dismissing Nayeem Hasan and Mahidul Islam with ease to leave them struggling at the crease. Rabada then completed an amazing effort by taking six second-inning wickets of this match to move into fourth position on all-time Test wicket-taker list, giving South Africa an early lead.
South Africa continued their fast bowler dominance as Mominul was caught behind for one run after misreading Keshav Maharaj’s ball which turned from in to out and was bowled from inside his off stump by him. Mominul had earlier reviewed an lbw shout against Maharaj that was upheld due to UltraEdge showing an edge onto Mominul’s foot boot.

South Africa tightened their grip on the match when Wiaan Mulder scored his maiden Test century, captain Kyle Verreynne made a stunning unbeaten 165 and spinner Taijul Islam also claimed five wickets for their side which declared at 575/6.
Bangladesh made an aggressive start to their second innings but Kagiso Rabada and Dane Paterson quickly reduced them to 21-2 with their new ball pair of Kagiso Rabada and Dane Paterson soon following. Rabada ran through Shadman Islam for a duck before bowling debutant Mahidul Islam for 34 with one that moved away.
Rabada then returned to form, taking three wickets in two overs – first Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught behind, followed by nightwatchman Liton Das being bowled lbw on an unsuccessful backlift attempt.
Bangladesh was in an awkward situation and, having fallen behind quickly, attempted to fight back with openers Liton Das and Towhid Hridoy hitting some big shots before both were eventually dismissed by Maharaj and Bangladesh lost. With their win giving South Africa a commanding 141 run lead and taking an early advantage in the series.
